Interpharma Educationals aims to get kids interested in natural sciences and technology and is represented in this field at numerous events and fairs each year. In 2016 these included:
The Festival of Molecules
The Fest der Moleküle (Festival of Molecules) took place on 26 and 27 August 2016 in the Kollegienhaus of the University of Basel. The event was organized by the University of Basel together with the Department of Chemistry, Canton Basel-Stadt, Interpharma and numerous research-based companies of the chemical and pharmaceutical industry established in the region. The two-day event offered youngsters the opportunity to immerse themselves in the exciting world of molecules. There were numerous stands, games, lectures and short presentations, and visitors also had a chance to talk with the experts. They were able to isolate their own DNA from their saliva, for example, experiment with dyes in chemistry and try creating fragrances and cosmetics.
International Physics Olympiad
Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein were awarded the opportunity to hold the 47th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) in 2016. It took place in Zurich in the week from 11 to 17 July. The IPhO is an international competition for secondary school students whose interest extends beyond the physics taught in the school curriculum. National qualifying rounds involving a multi-stage selection and training procedure are held to determine the five best young talents, who then go on to take part in the international Olympiad. The IPhO organized by a different IPhO member each year. In total, more than 900 people attended the 2016 IPhO - as participants, attendants, volunteers or organizers.
The tunOstSchweiz event took place from 13 to 17 April as part of the Spring and Trend Fair OFFA in St. Gallen. The foundation tunSchweiz and its local organizers, such as the association tunostschweiz.ch, pool the forces and resources of federations, companies and private individuals with the aim of getting kids interested in the world of technology and natural sciences. At the tun adventure shows, potential talents are provided with various opportunities to try things out, experiment with them and discover new things. Experts are on hand to answer questions and conduct stimulating experiments with them. At the tunOstSchweiz in 2016, for example, visitors could programme a robot, determine the sugar content o9f sweet beverages or create their own perfume.
